Less than 5% of new cancer drugs successfully make it through clinical trials. Clearly, new methods are needed to transform oncology research to improve patient care. Orakl Oncology is a techbio startup accelerating drug discovery and development through innovative tumor avatars. The company was established in 2023 as a spin-out from Gustave-Roussy, a leading European cancer research institute based on 10 years of research by Dr. Fanny Jaulin’s laboratory, Orakl’s CEO. Our tumor avatar technology has a unique ability to anticipate clinical trial outcomes, with preliminary data for standard-of-care drugs showing its promising predictive power. Orakl creates an avatar for each patient’s tumor, combining clinical and molecular data alongside scalable proprietary organoids and compares one-by-one patient response ex vivo and in the clinic. We discover and validate new targets, drugs, and predictive biomarkers at the population scale.

As the Biomedical Data Science Intern you will collaborate with our data science team to explore new approaches on the use of patient-derived organoid screens conducted at Orakl by our wet lab scientists.

Orakl has developed a ML model that maps the result from drug tests conducted on our own patient-derived organoid (PDO) lines to patient outcomes in the clinic. Along with this, we are developing workflows to identify genomic features predictive of organoid responses to specific drugs from organoid screening data. The goal of this internship is to be able to assess clinical trial outcomes by combining information from the Orakl PDO screens, the identified biomarker strength and the patient characteristics.

We strongly believe that internship contributions can be impactful. Our prior interns have developed tools that are implemented on day to day basis in our workflows and presented work at international conferences. This is an exceptional opportunity to contribute to the fields of functional precision medicine and clinical trials in oncology.

Even if you don't feel that you meet every single requirement, we still encourage you to apply :)
